In recent years the academic painter Martin Avsenik has been exploring new concepts in painting, such as combining visual art, sound and space into an applicable multimedia solution by the means of innovative technology, but nevertheless he often goes back to the roots of fine art. In doing so, he finds a challenge especially in the subject of portraiture as well as the landscape, since these offer to him as a painter many opportunities to learn the basic principles of art that he’s later transferring to his recent works.
It was a special challenge for him to create a portrait of his father Slavko Avsenik, as he considered his father to be difficult to portray in terms of achieving resemblance. The portrait painting of Slavko Avsenik in classical oil technique has been completed in September 2019 from the hands of his son and is thus preserving the memory of a worldly and well-known legend of Oberkrain music.
