Ivan Vavpotič was a Slovenian academic painter, illustrator and scenographer. He was born in 1877 in Kamnik. He studied at art academies and in studios in Prague, Paris and Vienna. As a representative of Slovenian impressionists and color realists, he was inclined towards genre and figurative painting. In Slovenian art, he left a strong influence as a book illustrator and as a portraitist of Slovenian citizens. He is the author of the first Slovenian stamp "chainman". He worked in Ljubljana as a freelance artist until his death in 1943.
