Maksim Sedej Sr. was a Slovenian academic painter. He was born in 1909 in Dobračeva at Žiri. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, where he later became a professor. He received the Prešeren Award. He was the first Slovenian to exhibit his works as Yugoslavian art at the Venice Biennial of Graphic Arts in 1954. He died in 1974 in Ljubljana.
