Valentin Oman is an Austrian painter of Slovene origins. He was born in 1935 in Šteben near Villach in Austria. He studied painting at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna. In 1963 he completed a specialization in print graphics at professor Debenjak at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. He is recognized as one of the most modern sacral artists. As a Carinthian Slovene he advocates the preservation and equality of the Slovene language. He has an honorary doctorate from the University of Klagenfurt. He received a golden order for merit for lifetime work in the field of fine arts from the Republic of Slovenia. He is the recipient of Jakopič and Tischler's prize and the Prešeren Fund award. He lives and works in Vienna and Austrian Carinthia.
