Vladimir Makuc was a Slovenian academic painter and sculptor and one of the leading Slovenian graphic artists. He was born in 1925 in Solkan. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. At professor Šubic he specialised in restoration and conservation. The study in Paris was followed by experimentation in graphic techniques (wood carving, etchings and aquatints). He later devoted himself to painting, making tapestries and sculptures. For his work he received the Prešeren Award, the Jakopič Prize and the Grand Prize of the International Graphic Biennial in Ljubljana. For his life work he received the Župančič Prize, the awarding order of work with a golden wreath and a silver order for merit. He gave the key part of his opus to the Gorizia Museum. He died in 2016.
